POINT TO POINT NEWS

Preview: Harborough Race Club - Dingley

There looks to be some fascinating racing in store when the H.R.C. hold their annual Point-to-Point meeting this coming weekend at Dingley, near Market Harborough.

This racecourse is one of the best viewing courses in the country, and to add more spice to the meeting the Hunt have introduced their first Ladies Day meeting, with Joules of Market Harborough kindly offering prize money of £100 for the Best Turned Out lady.

With recent rain and watering facilities the going looks to be perfect and the meeting has drawn a huge entry of 157 horses for the six races. First race time is 2.00pm.

Admission prices for the meeting are as previous Dingley meetings; £15 per car with driver, £5 each extra occupant, £5 pedestrians. Children under 14 are free.

First race on the card is The H.R.C. Members Race for Novice Riders; the race has attracted an entry of 25 and is kindly sponsored by Fisher German, Chartered Surveyors & Property Consultants of Market Harborough. Le Passing, a moderate third in a similar race to this and Lou Du Moulin Mas, also third last weekend at Garthorpe are here with strong claims. Bobbies Ryde has won his last two races at Dingley and is in with a chance. The winner however could be Sonevafushi who looks to have the best recent form.

Hows Racesafe have kindly sponsored Race Two, the Restricted race, and here we have an entry of 20. Patrick Millington's mount, Zaffarans Scene, won a Maiden race recently at Whitefield. Pass the Parsel from the Bailey yard was a half length winner at the same venue and Newnham Rambo was also a winner at the new course and he could be the one to support.

Third race up is the Ladies Open race, and Sharnford Tractors Ltd. have sponsored here. A total of 19 have been entered, and again this race looks quite tricky. Leatherback is consistent and has won his last two races at Northaw and Marks Tey. Assassino was a hot favourite when winning last weekend at Garthorpe, and Limerick Leader is a good Ladies horse and will have the services of Gemma Hutchinson. On the day, anyone of these three could win this.

There are 28 horses entered for the Mens Open and this also looks a tough race to call. Lycetts, The Insurance Brokers and Financial Advisers have kindly sponsored here. Gaelsbob is in top form and won recently at Maisemore Park; prior to that the gelding was unlucky when falling in the Lady Dudley Cup. The Easterby stable have Sonevafushi and Scrappie entered and both have strong chances, however it may be best to side with the Waley-Cohen gelding, Irilut, who is in good form.

The Langton Arms of Church Langton are sponsors for the next race, the Club Members race for nine-year-olds and over, which has drawn 31 entries.

Stuart Morris is likely to take the mount of All Star from the Bill Warner stable, who is well thought of at home. Ile De Paris is likely to have one of the Greenall team on board; the 10-year-old was a comfortable winner at Tabley in mid-May. Exceptionnel was quite impressive at Whitfield and is expected to be ridden by Tim Lane. Tuesday's Child looks to be the one with the best recent form and is taken to win.

There are 34 entered for the Open Maiden race, due off at 4.55pm. Cristal Glass, Leicester's leading glass and glazing merchants have kindly sponsored. Moscow Mule and Red Ringer have both run into third place in their latest outings. Finbars Pi was a close fourth at the Grafton and a good second on this course in early May and is just preferred.

The Dingley Racecourse is situated 3 miles East of Market Harborough, near A427.
