About Point to Point

Point to point meetings take place between January and early June and consist of six or seven races of over 3 miles. The courses are usually in a country setting but some times take place at normal race courses but with the course altered. The jumps are not as high as National Hunt Steeplechase fences but more substantial than Hurdles.

The horses who run have had to qualify by having been hunted six or more times during that season with a recognised British Isles pack of Foxhounds, Draghounds or Harriers. Successful young point to pointers often go on to win National Hunt Steeplechases, recently See More Business, Florida Pearl and Teeton Mill started their careers in Point to Points and a future chasing star may be Castle Mane who is now running in Point to Points and Hunter Chases. The jockeys, both male and female, are all amateurs, some owning their own horses, some of these jockeys also go on to Steeplechasing - Joe Tizzard started in Point to Points and Tom Scudamore and Robert Biddlecombe are amongst this season's Point to point winning jockeys.

Dingley is one of  the very few unique courses in the country, all the racing action can infact been seen from your car !! There are Bookmakers, Tote, eating and Bar facilities and Trade Stands, including sweets, clothes and childrens entertainment. Point to points are best known for their relaxed family picnic atmosphere coupled of course with exciting racing.
